In 1849, Ballard & Baird of Pittsburgh were manufacturing slide lathes, foot lathes, hand lathes, wood lathes, sash stickers, planers (presumably wood planers), molders, mortisers, and Fay, Fisher & Co.'s tenoning machine.

"Being both practical mechanics, we are prepared to manufacture "Slide Lathes, Foot do, Hand do., Wood do.,... Fay & Fisher's Tenoning [Machines], ..."
