This is definitely the Cadillac of all sharpening systems. It was introduced by Woodcraft in the 1970s. Using abrasive belts and a 12" diameter wheel gives you complete control and flexibility. Rather than spending hundreds of dollars for each CBN wheel at a different grit, new belts (still readily available) cost just a couple of dollars.
This machine is as solid as they come. The motor alone weighs 48 lbs, and the total unit more than 70.
When they first came out, they sold for upwards of $600. A comparable machine today like a Tormek T-8 starts at $700, easily $900 with the attachments, and a different grit CBN wheel will cost another $250. A Tradesman DC (the closest to this) is $1375.
Because the belts are inexpensive this sharpener can handle everything from axes and lawn mover blades (with a coarse belt) the the very finest Swiss Made carving tools. |
