Your choice. Buy as is or for a little more buy it completely refurbished 1940’s era 18 inch Crescent - Rockwell wood Planer. 5 HP Three phase
This planer is currently complete sans hand wheel for the speed control and door to cover the gear/belt compartment. The planer is ALL original EXCEPT brand new knife spacers, brand new belts (three), and a completely new secondary gear mechanism. The secondary gear mechanism was missing. I have reproduced it by copying the secondary gear mechanism I have in my other complete Crescent Planer.
The secondary gear mechanism contains two new steel gears, one brass gear, new sprocket, remachined pulley, new bracket, and two new gear spindles. This secondary gear mechanism has been installed and WORKS NORMALLY in my other Crescent Planer. ($600.00 for cutting the gears and $500.00 for machining the holes/spindles, key ways ect.) The original motor has been completely refinished including all new copper windings, bearings, and seals. ($1500.00 total bill from the Industrial Electrical Motor company for rebuild.)
Included are pictures of MY Crescent Planer that looked like the one offered for sale as is. I purchased both at the same time. IF you wish, for a bit higher price, the “as is” planer can be broken down and completely refurbished. I would use the same process I did for mine. Complete breakdown to every individual part. Each part cleaned in an electrolysis vat to pristine metal. (The original milling marks are now visible on my planner’s deck.) Each part painted with rust preventive primer then final paint with —gray as I did my planer or color of choice you provide (actual paint number from paint company). Reassembled and test run (Without knives.) I need $3000 for the planner as it is to break even. If you want me to finish it it would be more. |
