Diehl 750 Straightline Ripsaw by Diehl Machine Works, Wabash, IN. "On the Banks of the Wabash", as they say... Diehl is still in business, and a good company to deal with. Mereen-Johnson bought them awhile back, adding to MJs stable of venerable American woodworking machine companies.
This machine is in pretty good all around running condition Chain and Race is in pretty good condition 240 VT, 3 PH, but of course. Four speed drum switch on the feed motor Not "glue-line" but very good straight line ripping capability
Diehl takes fine old 750s like this one, strips them down, uses the main frames, tables, etc, then installs modern feed drives, new pressure heads, more anti-kickbacks, and other upgrades. They turn them back out "remanufactured" for about $25-30K.
In my humble opinion, the 750 model is the best all around Straightline Ripsaw ever built.. 7,000 lbs of steel and cast iron, classic lines, easily maintained, and will rip long lengths accurately.
I just ripped about 1,000' 20' long 4/4" oak on my own shop saw - Straight, clean, fast, accurate moulder blank, in no time. No Mattisons, or any of those little Chiwanese copies can do that. Thickness capacity is 4" with an 18" blade, for dimension stock.
A medium sized millwork guy who labors away jonting and then ripping significant board footage on a table saw will feel like they died and went to heaven when they run a straight line rip. Jointer?, what jointer? Will need a laser light and some shop space... Ripsaw eats up a 7' x 7' footprint, but will neatly fit against a wall on its right - arbormotor side. The Straight-line-rip is to a millworker what a table saw is to a woodworker - the most highly productive machine in the shop.
We have many parts for the 750. We used to restore them, but we got old.
Have another pressure head to go with this machine if you want. That is the part above the table that has the upper deadrolls. This one got cracked by some knucklehead on the tailing end. You can see that in the pictures. It doesn't hurt anything, and is "cosmetic" only. But if you want a nice clean machine, I have other other pressure heads.
Have all kinds of literature for these machines and many parts. A serious buyer who wants to step up their ripping game can try my shop saw and get hooked. We will load your flatbed truck or trailer with our forklift, no problem. |
