Wallace 16” bandsaw. Mid 20s-30s? Fair to good condition, functional. Purchased some years ago from some dude way up in the Santa Cruz mountains where he used it regularly.
I never used it, relying on a smaller Inca bandsaw. When I got the Wallace, I drained the oil, cleaned the gears and did some light housekeeping. On/off switch was a horror, I stripped it off and haven’t replaced it. I may have a motor start switch, possibly even a magnetic switch that you could wire up. Currently wired 220V.
The good: + Motor good. + Phenolic drive gears intact with little wear, drained lube was clean. + Bearings sound good. + Wheels reasonably true. + I believe all of the blade supports are present. + Only mild surface rust.
The less good: - Needs new tires. Upper tire intact, bottom missing. - Bottom wheel frame cover MIA. I have seen someone (on OWWM?) who replaced it with a painted piece of MDF. The cover is a simple flat rectangle, so that should work. - I don’t think there is a latch on the upper cover. - You may have to cut a new gasket for the motor mount interface.
Users are generally happy with this saw. It has a few funky features - stamped, dished wheels, plate steel table, and a gear driven motor.
I’ve had the saw long enough without doing anything with it and my project list is getting longer. It’s deserving of a rebuild by someone with the time to make it right. I have a strong preference for someone who agrees not to part it out and who can pick up soon. NorCal.
The saw is heavy but can break down into a few smaller and slightly less heavy components. I transported it in a 2 door coupe. |
