Line shaft Metal lathe. Model 1905. Mint condition, because, Henry Ford bought this lathe in 1912 he kept it in storage, covered in preservative. Ford and I never used it,but it was always kept preserved. Then I bought it at the Henry Ford museum in 1980. I had in my basement a lineshop shop. I restored every thing except this lathe. Its 7.6 feet tall, my basement was 7ft. Its cleaned and polished now. It had no rust. Never used so all bearings are still new. It is one of kind because it was made only one year in 1905. Before 1905 all the counter shafts were mounted above on the ceiling or wall. After 1905 the co. only made them with electric motors attached. Only this model had a wider cast iron stand, with cast iron cathedral like 7.5ft towers that held its own jack shaft, or counter shaft. With built in belt control lever. In conclusion, it may be the only example of its kind. Never used, perfect bearings, even all its threading gears are there. Stored in i think cosmoline, preservative, till I just spent 2 months cleaning and polishing it. Museum quality. Any questions call me. Paul Gilbert 313 6007906 hastings Michigan. I can send more photos or vidios if you like. The sale receipt i got at the auction included Henry Fords original receipt with his signature and comment that he wanted it in his Museum someday, because of the beauty and novelty of the towers. The headstock has a perfecty tite bearing, even the idler pully has no slop at all. I have always changed bearings, and some times shafts because they have ben running for at least 100 years. But not this one its like new. Thanks! |
