This is a rare, restored Fisher & Davis No. 1 "Pony Mill" from St. Louis. It is a heavy-duty industrial setup that has been modernized for one-man operation. This package is leveled, dialed-in, and currently sawing.
The Sawmill (Industrial Heritage):
-The Husk: Unlike lighter models, this features the all-steel I-beam husk frame tied with heavy round steel spacers. It is rock-solid and provides the rigidity needed for high-torque sawing. The Track: Massive 96-foot track system (dual 48’ runs) made from 6”x6”x1/4” steel angle iron. This allows for extremely long, straight cuts (beams, trailer decking) that standard wood-track mills can't handle.
-The Carriage: Authentic 6x6 timber carriage in excellent condition. It absorbs vibration better than steel and preserves the mill's historical value.Blades: Includes TWO 48” hammered circular blades tensioned for PTO speed. Both have fresh teeth (bits and shanks) installed.Modern Upgrades:Remote Operation: Custom converted to run via a shop crane winch motor. You can control the carriage feed and return via wireless remote from the tractor seat—perfect for safe, one-man production.
-Originality: I have kept all the original manual levers, pulleys, and belt-drive parts if you prefer the vintage mechanical setup.
-The Power:Tractor: 1978 Allis-Chalmers 5040 Diesel.Specs: 40+ HP with 540 RPM PTO. This tractor is a perfect match for the mill and runs great. No leaks, ready to work.
-Summary:This is a "turn-key" operation. Whether you are a collector or looking to start a custom-sawing business, this Fisher & Davis is built to outlast any modern portable mill. |
