Barrett Vise & Tool Co. was established in 1881 by the Barrett brothers James O., Charles, and William, to manufacture vises and horizontal cylinder boring machines designed by James. By the mid-1890s the firm had been consolidated with Meadville Vise Co. James O. Barrett was half-owner and superintendent of both companies in 1893.
Research into these companies has been hampered by a lack of advertising.
