In 1848-9 the Matteawan Machine Works were making stationary steam engines, locomotive engines, lathes, planers, and drilling machines.

  • The 1848-11-11 Scientific American lists premiums awarded at the recent Fair of the American Institute, including a Silver Medal to "Wm. B. Leonard, Agent, Matteawan Machine Co., Matteawan, N. Y., for 2d best Steam Engine."

    Matteawan Machine Works.—The Matteawan Company have added to their Machine Works an extensive LOCOMOTIVE ENGINE department, and are prepared to execute orders for Locomotive Engines of every size and patern; also, Tenders, Wheels, Axles, and other Railroad Machinery, to which they ask the attention of those who wish such articles, before they purchase elsewhere.

    Stationary Engines, Boilers, etc., Of any required size or pattern, arranged for driving Cotton, Woollen, or other Mills, can be had on favorable terms, and at short notice.

    COTTON and WOOLLEN MACHINERY. Of every description, embodying all the modern improvements, second in quality to non in this or any other country, made to order.

    MILL GEARING. Of every description, may be had at short notice, as this Company has probably the most extensive assortment of patterns, in this line, in any section of the country, and are constantly adding to them.

    TOOLS. Turning Lathes, Slabbing, Planing, Cutting, and Drilling Machines, of the most approved patterns, together with all other Tools required in machine shops, may be had at the Matteawan Company's Shops, Fishkill Landing, or at 39 Pine Street, New York. Wm. B. Leonard, Ag't.
