In 1881, E. McCabe & Co. was manufacturing portable steam engines. A patent search turns up a succession of patents related to boilers granted to McCabes from Lawrence, Mass., and spanning the late 1800s into the 1940s. McCabe Manufacturing Co., also of Lawrence, was not a successor business.
