"Harvey Scribner Jr., occupies one floor 40 x 80 feet, for the manufacture of saw clapboard, shingle, lath, box and board machinery, commencing here in 1866. He employs five persons and does a business of $12,000 annually." (Quote from 1869.)
"Harvey Scribner came to Gardiner from Casco, Me., in 1854, and in 1856 rented of J. E. Ladd & Co. a new building on dam No. 1, and began making shafting, pulleys and lumber machinery. In 1872 he bought the building and did millwright and machine work till January 1890, when he was burned out. One week from that time Mr. Scribner bought his present factory of Captain Joseph Perry, in which he employs sixteen men." (Quote from 1892.)
