"J. E. Ladd & Co. occupy one floor, 40x80, for the manufacture of Ladd's Patent Turbine Water Wheel, and all kinds of saw mill machinery, commencing in 1866. They employ six persons, and do a business of $10,000 yearly.
The favor with which their new wheel has been received has led them to make arrangements for a more extended business, anticipating their success in this direction. They claim more power and durability for less money than any wheel yet introduced. We expect they will do much towards developing the water power of Maine, which is yet in its infancy." (Quote from 1869.)
