Beginning in the early 1920s, the International Register Co. made the International Cutawl, a patented scrollsaw where the entire blade assembly swivelled to follow the curves of the cut. Early versions used an articulated arm to support the blade assembly and motor; the end of the arm was clamped to a table, and that made the Cutawl a machine that qualifies for this Vintage Machinery website. Later versions were handheld, and those are outside the scope of this site.

At some point the Cutawl was made by Cutawl Co., and then by the Helmond Co.
