By 1855 Jeremiah F. Abbott was a partner in Abbott & Brooks, shipjoiners. He seems to have disappeared from Boston for a while but then resurfaced by 1868 as J. F. Abbott, manufacturer and dealer in woodworking machinery. 1868 and '70 ads mention boring machines, table saws, swing saws, and scroll saws among his products. In 1870 he was joined by E. S. Perkins and the business name changed to Jeremiah F. Abbott & Co. By 1886 the business name was J. F. Abbott & Co., elevator manufacturers.
