Active between at least 1892 and 1894, Bridgman & House—a partnership of Alfred Bridgman and David House—were making patent saw benches and box trimming machines. Information on this maker is exceedingly sparse. We know that Bridgman had been working as a box-maker before the partnership was created. We have not been able to find anything on David House.

Information Sources

  • 1869-11-01 The Magnet, Agricultural, Commercial, and Family Gazette lists bankruptcy proceedings at London 1869-10-29, including "Alfred BRIDGMAN, Newton st, Hoxton, box maker". He was to "Surrender at the Court of Bankruptcy, London".
  • 1869-10-29 The London Gazette: "Alfred Bridgman, of No. 11, Newton-street, Bridport-place, Hoxton, and Brewhouse-year, Saint John-street, Clerkenwell, Box and Packing Case Maker, formerly of No. 7, King-street, Hackney-road, all in the county of Middlesex, lately in co-partnership with James Walter as Box and Packing Case Makers, at Brewhouse-yard aforesaid, having been adjudged bankrupt under a Petition for adjudication of Bankruptcy, filed in Her Majesty's Court of Bankruptcy, in London, on the 26th day of October, 1869, is hereby required to surrender himself to William Powell Murray, Esq., a Registrar of the said Court, at the first meeting of creditors to be held before the said Registrar, on the 10th of November next, at two o'clock in the afternoon precisely, at the said Court. Mr. Mansfield Parkyns, of No. 36, Basinghall-street, London, is the Official Assignee, and Mr. Jas. Popham, of No. 5, Vincent-square, Islington, is the Solicitor acting in bankruptcy."
  • 1892-09-17 Timber and Wood Working Machinery has an ad from this firm for the box-making machine, "Bridgman and House's patent". We have not been able to find that patent as online information on 19th century British patents is spotty at best.
  • Despite the above, patent records did provide a few data points and also provided the given names of Messrs. Bridgman and House.
