In 1874 the City Iron Works were making ornamental iron work as well as steam engines and laundry machinery—an unusual combination.

• Listing in 1865 San Francisco Directory: "Railroad Iron Works, N. Yung proprietor, 28 Fremont". There is also a listing for "Yung Nicholas, Railroad Iron Works, 28 Fremont (and Craig, Golden & Y.)
• Listing in 1869 San Francisco Directory: "Clerc (P. F.) & Co., (W. Debrie and H. Voitelot) proprietors City Iron Works, 28 Fremont".
• Listing in 1872 San Francisco Directory: "City Iron Works Co., (Irwin J. Truman, George F. Tantau, Samuel P. Doane, Oscar Lewis and Simon S. Morrill) 28 Fremont".
• Ad in 1874 San Francisco Directory. The City Iron Works were at 26 & 28 Fremont St., which 30 years later would be occupied by machinery dealer A. L. Young Machinery Co. Ads for that latter firm sometimes gave the location as "NW corner Fremont and Mission".
• 1876 San Francisco Directory lists City Iron Works, Low & Chartrey, proprietors, 26 and 28 Fremont. Charles A. Low and Raoul Chartrey were the partners in Low & Chartrey.
