R & L Tools, meaning Right and Left, manufactured thread and flute cutters at 1825 Bristol St. in Philadelphia's Nicetown neighborhood. Advertisements appeared in 1920-1921 for automatic screw machine products made by J. E. Poorman at this address. Philadelphia city directories for 1923 and 1950 listed the business as John E. Poorman and J. E. Poorman.

In the 1960's R & L Tools were bought by the Somma Tool Co. of Waterbury, CT
