Founded by Charles Portass and Stanley Moore Portass as the Heeley Motor & Mfg. Co. in the mid 1920's. In about 1930, Stanley launched Portass Lathe & Machine Tool Co. to manufacture heavier types of metalworking lathes. The firm was liquidated in 1970.
