Key to Links for Patent Information

USPTO = U.S. Patent Office . Images of the actual patent can be viewed on the U.S. Patent Office web site but a special TIFF viewer must be installed with your browser in order properly work. More information on how to configure your computer to view these patents can be found at TIFF image Viewers for Patent Images.
DATAMP = Directory of American Tool And Machinery Patents . A sister site to VintageMachinery.org with information on patents related to machinery and tools. A much easier user interface than the USPTO's for finding information on machinery patents.

Patent Number Date Title Name City Description
1,487,256 Mar. 18, 1924 Pneumatic abrading cushion Arthur William Mall Chicago, IL According to a 1954 "Life Sketch" of the inventor, "Arthur W. Mall started the Mall Tool Company on January 1, 1921, in Milwaukee, Wisc., with a capital of less than $200.00. One year later the company was moved to the south side of Chicago where it stands today. The first product of the Mall Tool Company was a pneumatic sanding and polishing wheel which requires a portable power tool to revolve..." Given the application date for the patent, the evidence makes the 1921 starting date somewhat more plausible but we have not found any other evidence to confirm that date.
