In business by 1944, the Ellis-Lawyer Tool Co. manufactured "Ellis" dividing heads. Sometime between 1947 and '51 they were succeeded by the Pump Division of Byron Jackson Co., Vernon, California; we have never seen any hint that that firm put their name on Ellis products. By 1951 we see ads for the Ellis dividing head from the Nichols-Morris Corp. of White Plains, NY, who were apparently distributors rather than manufacturers. By 1957 we see ads and articles mentioning both Nichols-Morris and Ellis Tool & Manufacturing Co. of El Monte, California. Soon, though, the Nichols-Morris name disappeared in favor of the Ellis Tool & Manufacturing Corp. That company survived into at least the 1970s.
