In 1854, a small family business was founded in Remscheid which developed and manufactured braces and breast drills of the highest quality for the German market. Everything was forged by hand. The hammers at the watercourses in the valleys produced the material. Further processing then took place in the small forges where tools and equipment were created.
Friedrich Carl August Arnz expanded the business and improved the factory facilities in 1879.
As early as 1904, hand-held bench drills had also been developed. The Regulateur drilling machines which had automatic feed were launched. They were sold all over the world and were protected by a German Reich patent.
1929, the 3rd family generattion entered the business: the sons of Ernst and August Arnz joined the company after completing their training.
1954, the company celebrated its 100th anniversary. The founder and his sons from the 2nd generation have long since passed away but in their spirit, with the same diligence and thriftiness, the heirs in the 3rd and now recently also the 4th generation are tirelessly working.
In 1972, Flott introduced the Flottjet product range for hobby craftsmen and small businesses.
In 2008, the financial crisis strook hard, turnover collapsed. Employees lost their jobs. Insolvency was inevitable. But by the middle of the year, the founding family dared to make a fresh start. The good reputation and the well-known brand name in Europe were important for the new start. Flott bench and floor-standing drills are considered indestructible.
Following the restart, the company is once again one of the largest on the market. New products, such as a globally unique bench-top drilling machine, in which drilling and thread cutting are controlled completely electronically, as well as the Plus series which was launched in 2019, further strengthen the good market position.
Since July 1, 2013, FLOTT has had its assembly site in Remscheid's Bökerbau, a listed industrial building.
