In 1872, master locksmith Johann Friedrich Meyer and his former apprentice Wilhelm Schwabedissen founded a machine shop. In the early years, Meyer and Schwabedissen manufactured a variety of machines for industry, trade and agriculture. With the rise of the furniture industry in East Westphalia, the company began specializing in woodworking machines.
While the company initially produced sawmill machinery, the machine factory gradually began manufacturing more and more woodworking machines, such as planers, routers and tenoning machines. Over the years, as the company specialized in double-end profilers, edging and panel saws and panel-cutting saws, the production of all other machines took a back seat.
