In 1872 Murray Bacon was manufacturing foot lathes and power lathes for working metal. He also made a dual-spindle vertical boring machine. This was a small business, probably a single-man operation, located in the rear of 623 Commerce Street in Philadelphia. By 1884 Bacon was superintendent of Philadelphia toy maker Novelty Electric Co.
