Founded in 1902 as a subsidiary of the Hill, Clarke & Co. The firm went out of business in 1919.

We have seen a heavy-duty 10x24 lathe from this maker. It looks to be from about 1910.

Information Sources

  • A correspondent brought our attention to a machine auctioned on eBay. The machine has a brass plate that reads, "Chicago Machine Tool Co. / Manufacturers / Chicago, Ill., U. S. A. / Hill, Clarke & Co. general sales agents / Boston . New York . Chicago"
  • A web search turned up a currently active tool dealer with the same name. A company history said that they have been in business for fifty years, which implies that this modern-day dealer is likely unrelated to the manufacturer from nearly 100 years ago.
