The company is a maker of manual and CNC knee type milling machines. The original company was Index Machine & Tool Co., which started in Jackson, Michigan in 1938. The name was changed to Wells-Index Corp. around 1971 when Wells Mfg. bought the company and moved to Three Rivers, MI. A. & D. Machinery bought Wells-Index Corp. in 1987 and moved to Muskegon, MI.
