Bridgeford Machine Tool Works was founded before 1901 and incorporated in 1907, by Charles Bridgeford, August E. Huther and Warren B. Huther. Bridgeford was formerly with the Gleason Works and the Huther Brothers owned Huther Brothers Saw Manufacturing Co.

The firm specialized in heavy duty engine lathes and was absorbed into the Betts Machine Co., which was owned by Arthur H. Ingle, in 1919. Bridgeford had died in 1914. Ingle had bought what remained of Betts in Wilmington, DE and moved it to Rochester, NY in 1918.

In 1922 the Betts Machine Co. merged with Colburn Machine Tool Co., Hilles and Jones Co., Modern Tool Co. and Newton Machine Tool Works to form the Consolidated Machine Tool Corp. of Rochester, NY.
