Spanning at least 1961 through the mid-1980s, Ferguson Machine Co., a subsidiary of UMC Industries, Inc., manufactured power transmission components and parts handling equipment. UMC was originally known as Universal Match Corporation.

Universal Match Corporation of St. Louis, Missouri, has joined with Société Générale de Belgique of Brussels, a leading Belgian holding and investment company, and S.A. La Brugeoise et Nivelles of Bruges, an important Belgian metalworking firm, to set up Ferguson Machine Company of Belgium in Brussels. Universal Match Corporation will contribute patents and technical assistance regarding products manufactured by its subsidiary, Ferguson Machine Corporation of St. Louis, such as roller gear drives, intermittors, and trans-o-mators. The new Belgian company will produce the Ferguson line of products for the European Market with the exception of United Kingdom and Ireland.
