Patent Number Date Title Name City Description
54,248 Apr. 24, 1866 Improvement in machine-drills Nelson P. Eddy Fall River, MA The patent covers a simple mechanism that allows the table to be rotated from horizontal to vertical or any angle in between. The co-assignees, William M. Hawes and inventor Nelson P. Eddy, were partners in the machine-tool manufacturing firm of Wm. P. Hawes & Co., and we presume that they manufactured this invention (they definitely made drill presses). The 1870-02-26 Scientific American had an article on the Assonet Machine Co.'s improved version of this patent drill press.
158,218 Dec. 29, 1874 Improvement in cleaners for spinning-mules Severin Mock Little Falls, NY The 1880-02-07 issue of "The Machinists" has the following item in a longer note about Fall River, Mass.: "Hawes Machine Co. have several men continually employed manufacturing Mock's Pat. Automatic Mule Cleaner, for which there is an active demand in our mills. These cleaners not only clean the beam and carriage, but save stopping to blow off. More yarn per week, and cleaner yarn, is the result."
