In the early part of the 20th century the St. Joseph Iron Works, of St. Joseph, Michigan, manufactured specialized machinery for making barrel hoops, veneer, crates, baskets, and fruit boxes and baskets. At some point the business name was changed to St. Joe Machines, Inc.
