From 1958 to 1985—and perhaps for longer—this firm was in business. In their early years, at least, they made wood planers.

  • The 1958 edition of The Maine Register and State Reference Book lists "Spear Machine Co. — Machinery Mfrs. — (lumber planers, power feed strippers, speed reducers, winches)."
  • The 1959 The Maine Register and State Reference Book lists "SPEAR MACHINE CO. Lewlston Road (Falls). Wesley Spear, Prop. Employees — 3. Machinery Mfrs. (lumber planers, power feed strippers, speed reducers, winches)."
  • The 1985 Directory of New England Manufacturers lists "SPEAR MACHINE CO FROST HILL AVE LISBON FALLS ME 04252".
  • Correspondent Raymond Montgomery reports a 1960s GMC 5500 truck with a pulp loader made by this firm. A pulp loader consists of a grapple mounted on the end of a boom, used for moving small logs.
