Charles L'Hommedieu & Sons Co. (also Chas. F. L'Hommedieu & Sons Co.) made pedestal buffers and polishers. In the trade these are termed "buffing and polishing lathes".

  • January 1911 The Brass World and Platers' Guide.
    Chas. F. L'Hommedieu & Sons Co., 24-26 South Clinton St., Chicago, Ill., manufacture an exceptionally complete line of plating and polishing supplies and equipment. It would be difficult to find anything needed in a plating shop that they do not handle. They are now placing on the market their No. 9 polishing lathe that is adapted for heavy use, and manufacture dynamos for every kind of work. Their "Reliance Plating Barrel" has been placed in many establishments where it is giving the best of satisfaction. It is of the oblique type and small quantities as well as large ones may be plated with equal facility. The smallest kind of goods, such as pins or eyelets, can also be plated in it.
  • The March 1917 Metal Record and Electroplater lists Chas. F. L'Hommedieu & Sons Co., Chicago, as a supplier of buffing and polishing supplies.
  • The July 1918 Brass World reports on the exhibitors at the Sixth National Convention of the American Electro-Platers' Society, held July 1-3 in Detroit.
    Charles F. L'Hommedieu & Sons Co,. Chicago, were represented by E. L. L'Hommedieu and exhibited their well known line of buffing and polishing lathes including their ball bearing lathe which as met with great success in the trade. Their Reliance utility buff hub was also shown. This device is finding a large sale, particularly at this time on account of the high cost of new buffs. It enables old buffs to be used by placing a number of them together and building up a buff 14 in. in diameter. The firm also exhibited a varied line of plating and polishing supplies.

    Charles F. L'Hommedieu Dies at 93 in Los Angeles
    Charles F. L'Hommedieu, 93 years old, founder of the plater machinery and supply concern bearing his name, died yesterday In Los Angeles. Mr. L'Hommedieu was born in Stockbridge, Mass., a descendant of Benjamin L'Hommedieu, a French Huguenot who settled In the United States in 1686. He came to Chicago in 1898 and established the Charles F. L'Hommedieu & Sons company. Mr. L'Hommedieu retired from business 12 years ago and went to Los Angeles to live. He Is survived by three sons, Clarence, Edward and Arthur. Funeral services will be held Tuesday in Los Angeles.
  • An OSHA report on a 1994 worker fatality shows that the company was still in business at that time. The worker fell 20 feet from a ladder supported by a platform secured to a forklift and died of head injuries. Fines totalling $4950 were assessed.
