Rockwell Company Buys Walker-Turner Plant

Rockwell Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh, Pa., which yesterday announced purchase of the local Walker-Turner plant, 900 North Ave., controls plants in 17 other communities, including one in Canada.

The corporation and its subsidiaries make a variety of valves, meters and regulators for control of liquids and gases. Their other products include metal and woodworking power tools, recording devices, taxi and parking meters, fare registers and electrical conduit fittings.

Has 5,200 Employes

Its sales in 1954 were $876 million and it employs approximately 5,200 persons. No immediate personnel changes are planned at Walker-Turner, it was reported at the sale closure yesterday.

The Rockwell Corporation was formed in 1925 and since then has steadily added subsidiary companies. Delta Manufacturing Company, principal competitor of Walker-Turner, was taken over by Rockwell Manufacturing in 1945.

Is Chairman

W. F. Rockwell is chairman of the firm's board of directors and its main offices are at 400 N. Lexington Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa.

Walker-Turner was a division of Kearney & Trecker Corporation. The Plainfield plant, which employs about 225 persons, manufactures small tools for light industrial purposes. Its name and line will be continued under the new parent company and distribution will remain the same.
