Image Description:
Columns or standards can be dispensed with when a sufficiently strong wall is available for carrying the radial arm, and in fig. 249 is represented a wall radial manufactured by the Cincinnati Bickford Tool Company, of America. Separate bed-plates are required for these machines to support the work under the radial arm, and any convenient type or form of bed can be used. In the simpler types of wall radials the arm cannot be raised or lowered, but in the case of the machine illustrated, the arm is adjustable vertically by power through a height of 36 in. Ten changes of spindle speed, ranging in geometrical progression from 37 to 263 revolutions per minute, are pro- vided. The tapping attachment enables the taps to be run out at any of the speeds, and it is operated by a single handle, which starts, stops, and reverses the spindle.
