A three-spindle, centring, counter-boring, and facing machine, by Messrs. John Lang & Sons, is illustrated in fig. 71. The headstock carries three spindles, each driven at the correct speed for its particular operation by means of one common belt. One of the spindles carries an ordinary facing tool, the second carries a twist drill for centring, and the third carries a twist drill for counter-boring. Each of these tools can be readily brought into correct alignment; and the whole head is advanced towards the fixed work by means of the handwheel at the end of the bed. Two self-centring vices are provided, as shown, for securely holding the work to be operated upon. |
