DAVIS & EGAN COCK GRINDER. The illustration shows a new machine made by the Davis & Egan Machine Tool Co., of Cincinnati, for grinding keys for steam, gas or water cocks, up to 2 inches in diameter. The spindle is rotated by a segment of a gear, giving one and one-quarter revolutions in each direction. The spindle is in a sleeve which covers its entire length, and being provided with guards to prevent the cutting material getting into the bearings, the life of the machine is materially lengthened. The crank-shaft runs in long bearings that are also protected from all cutting substances and is driven by a 10” pulley with a 3” belt. The machine is carefully fitting in all its parts, and designed with a view to producing work rapidly. |
