I picked this up at a Los Angeles Unified School District auction. It may have come out of their maintenance department. It is in perfect condition. I think the guards are original with the usual mesh being replaced with sheet metal over the years. It even has the fence. It looks like the top and bottom bearing mounts were replaced in the '80s so there is no way of knowing if it originally came with babbitt or roller bearings. They did a beautiful job fabricating the mount for the top wheel but the unit is a little larger than stock and that limits the range of adjustment. It still works but the length of the blade has to be right to +/- 1". I was building a phase convertor to run it but then I stumbled across the perfect 5 hp single phase motor and I decided to mount that on there for now. I will keep the original and remount it if the RPC gets finished. The rubber on the wheel is in perfect condition but it was never crowned. There were some scrape marks on the inside of the guards which may indicate the blade was coming off due to bad tracking. Fellow OWWMer Dave S. and I devised a mounting system and sanded a crown on them. A couple of hours of very careful setup and tuning and it was running very smoothly and quietly. It will be great having this in my shop.
