Comments:
I bought this band saw and a Delta 10" TS/6" jointer combo (posted) from a local construction company that was liquidating some of its machine inventory. It was completely disassembled, all parts were thoroughly cleaned, de-rusted and stripped of paint and other coatings. I used different methods to do this depending on the part, including electrolysis, EvapoRust solution, ultrasonic cleaning and a lot of "elbow grease". All painted parts were repainted using color-matched Sherwin Williams DTM paint, which I've found to be a great product. Unfortunately, I found the wheel side bearing had seized and wore the drive shaft about 0.50" smaller. I have yet to find another shaft, so I turned the shaft in my 1936 SB lathe to remove the taper, turned a precise steel sleeve, split it into a two piece helix, installed it on the worn area and pressed the new bearing in place. This worked out really well. I also bought and installed a retirement light, rip fence and rails, graphite guide blocks, new tires and new bearings throughout. It came with a plywood box for a belt guard, but I was fortunate to find an appropriate belt guard for its restoration. I still need to install new water slide decals on the motor and stand and would like to find (found) one more knurled steel knob for the lower wheel cover as well as a sawdust chute. (Sold to another OWWM member.)
