I purchased this machine in 1999 from an individual advertising in the local classified ads. The seller had purchased it some years prior from a local machinery dealer. He was asking $500 for it. I recall I showed him that new Taiwan made 6" jointers were in the $450 range at the time - hoping he would lower the price. He told me he paid much more than that originally. As a side note, I think Powermatic was selling these Model 50 jointers up until approximately 1997 or so for about $1,400. At that time, it was the only remaining American made 6" machine available.

Anyway, when I tested it by running a board across, it sniped the trailing end of the board and the seller said "Yes, it does that...I don't know why!". I reached down and adjusted the outfeed table, re-joined the board and it worked perfectly. The seller was suprised and almost changed his mind about selling it. In the end, I walked out of there with it for only $400, which was an excellent deal. Later, I sold it to a friend for the same.

It's a really good machine.
