This saw was given to me by my father, and was in pretty rough shape when I acquired it. I recently restored the saw to a level that I am happy with. The 3 hp motor pictured was removed from another piece of machinery I had lying around. The internal components were all thoroughly cleaned, and the arbor bearings were replaced. At some point in time it appears that someone used a cutting torch possibly to gain access to the arbor pulley(photo 5)...not really sure why? This is a great saw! Changing out the arbor bearings made all the difference in the world in terms of this saws performance.
