Comments:
Just recently acquired from ebay, was apparently sourced by the farm i bought it from in the Ransomes factory local to there. I have sent the serial number to Hendeyman who was kindly able to tell me the following:

Your lathe was completed on August 18, 1920 and is
considered an 18 x 10 model (these dimensions should be
cast into the bed just in front of the headstock). As you
noted, it is a metric lathe, meaning that all dimensions of
the various parts are listed in millimeters. Your lathe will
swing about 462 mm over the bed.The pitch of the leadscrew is 8 mm, the diameter of the spindle nose is 70 mm and the pitch of the spindle nose thread is 5 mm. The original owner was W. R. Grace & Company, New York, New York.

I don't know anything else about it, except that the brass plate on the gearbox is in French, so where it went after W.R. Grace & company i have no idea.
