I got all jazzed up yesterday when I saw this on CraigsList in Longmont, CO, which is only a couple of hours from home. From the CraigsList photo I thought it was a model 150, at a fair price. Plus, wifey needed to be present only a few miles away when the vet examined her horse. Perfect! I get good-guy credits by being there for the vet, and I get to (maybe) strike one off my want list.
Turns out it is not a 150. So I was disappointed, but I liked it anyway so I was off to the ATM. (Left the card in the ATM; another story.) The PO, a welder/machinist/4WD specialist, purchased it a few months ago with a bunch of other machines when an old fella closed up his machine shop; no other history.
This DP seems to work fine, and the bearings are tight. There is some sluggishness in the quill return spring, which I imagine will improve when I clean it up. The 1/3 HP, 1725 RPM motor may or may not be appropriate to the vintage of the machine.
This may not require a full restoration, which is an appealing prospect. Problem is, cleaning up usually leads to total disassembly, and why not do a full restoration when ya go that far? (I need to learn some discipline.)
I imagine this will just take its turn on the waiting list. That means God only knows when there will be some update photos. Some day!
