This wood bed lathe was spotted on my local Craigslist site. There does not appear to be any casting markings, etc., that would indicate the maker. The tailstock has a certain grace to its design. The headstock sports a hand turned wood 3 step V-groove pulley.

Update - the lathe was again listed on CL at a price that meant it was next destined to be tossed if no one took this off his hands, so I volunteered. Inspecting it in person verified that this is a shop built lathe and is quite old. I haven't attempted to pull the headstock apart, and probably won't. At this stage this looks more like an artifact that a working machine to me, but interesting just the same! The bed is made of dimension lumber set on a pair of spreaders, with angle iron inserted on the beds to to add rigidity, flatness and serve as the surface that everything slides on. The banjo and the base of the headstock and tailstock are all shop built from wood. The pulleys are wood. I can't tell if they are a commercial product or shop turned.
