A friend (also co-worker of mine) and I obtained the jointer from a foundry located in Decatur, Alabama. The jointer was complete and in very good condition. I had it sandblasted and I repainted it the original black color. It had the original clam-shell cutter head which required me to manufacture a socket so I could tighten, loosen and remove the knives. I installed a magnetic starter switch and a 5 horsepower, 3-phase Baldor motor. I fabricated and installed a belt guard. I cut off the original babbit bearing saddles and retro-fitted it so it will accept pillow block ball bearings. It is now ready to operate another 100 years or more.
