Comments:
This machine was owned by a couple who had spent 9 years building a 39 ft. sailboat to retire on and sail away. Six years ago when it was months away from completion, a vandal set it on fire and the boat and their home it was next to burned. The only salvageable part was the engine, it was well enough insulated that it survived, so he started over, w/ a smaller powerboat design into which the engine went. They are finishing up the boat and selling their home and contents, so in addition to the jointer, which I got for $100, I hauled away a bunch of other "good stuff" to fill my ratholes.

I call this thing the Ugly Duckling, for what seem obvious reasons, and would not have purchased it, had the seller not been so persuasive, and thrown so much other stuff in to the deal, but as i dismantled and inspected it, I have become increasingly fond of the thing. It is stout as all get out, and has some very nice features, as well as being virtually all there and in good shape, except for surface rust and semi petrified lubricants, and some sloppy paint from the homade base lapping at its castings. The castings themselves are great, if somewhat lacking in elegance...the thing resembles a cylinder head from a big old straight six engine.

Will make a new stand, clean up and repaint, replace bearings, and it will be good as new, and probably outlast me. this will be my jobsite jointer to accompany the "portable" benchtop W-T 9" tablesaw I recently acquired.
