This drill press was a quest machine for me for quite a while. I first saw one of this type badged as a Walker Turner in the machine shop at my work. I later saw this one at a cabinet shop sale and it took almost a year for them to decide on a price. Once they did, they wouldn't budge. It came with a commander multi drill, which I was very excited about at first, but as hard as I have tried, I have never come up with a single, sensible use for it. The good news is that as an accessory, it only included an extra 300 parts. In the literature, this model is referred to as the Old W-T type because of it's similarity with the later generation Walker Turner 20" presses.

I tore this drill press apart by myself for the most part. Shane helped me get the commander parts off. I took the motor off and then lifted the head unit off of the column. I wriggled the table assembly up and over also. Then I had to lay the column down on some blocks and tap the base off about 1/1000" at a time. That process alone had me sweating buckets. The table raising mechanism was cracked. There was a crack in the bracket which holds the crank to the column, and also one of the gears was cracked clean through. I will try to order a replacement gear and have the crack in the gear cover repaired. I think this will be a very nice press down the road a bit. It has a 3 phase motor, which I think is 1 hp.
