This lathe is posted with permission of a local seller, using photos saved and uploaded from an on-line listing. There are very few Flather & Co. lathes posted in the index, though the write-up on the company suggests that they were an early and innovative pioneer in various metal lathe features. Three features that are noted as created or adopted very early by Flather include a hole through the headstock spindle, a compound tool rest, and a quick-change gearbox.
