*** Jointer color ***
The original jointer had 11 painted parts with more than 7 shades of blue, so I picked one. It took four separate color match attempts before I was satisfied. The color codes are available in the FAQ section of OWWM. I completely stripped the jointer to bare metal, then sprayed several coats of a low-luster self priming base and high-gloss top coat. The black parts were stripped and spray painted with flat black and gloss clear coat.

*** Motor ***
This motor came with the jointer when I purchased it. It is a 1/2 HP dual shaft with reversing switch (seen in picture). The motor is very heavy and runs more like a modern 1 HP.

*** Cast Iron top ***
I spent a couple hours with 240-340-400-600 grit wet-dry paper using honing oil as a lubricant. I finished it off with several passes of metal polish applied with my variable speed orbital sander using a foam pad. There are still a couple age marks (stains), but this top is perfectly flat.

*** Paint & polish ***
I cleaned and polished all non-plated metal parts with a 3 step process. First came a soak in paint stripper, then a buffing with several grades of scratch pads, and lastly, a good hand polishing with fine metal polish. The SKF bearing decal in back was carefully covered during the painting. The model # tag and Craftsman badge were removed by carefully tapping out the twist brads from behind. Small parts like screw heads were buffed with my Dremel using a wire brush. The cutterhead and fence bars were cleaned up with wet-dry sand paper and polished with fine metal polish.

*** Base ***
This is the base that came with the jointer when I bought it. I've replaced the top to accommodate the new dust collection box. I plan on building a new one soon, but it will do for now.

*** Non original equipment ***
The red fibre washer on the fence are not original. I broke the originals during disassembly. I thought I could pry them off with a putty knife, but they were stuck tight after years of compression. I cut and sanded the new washers from a sheet of fibre composite. I considered painting them blue, but like the way the red of the washers, link belt, and Craftsman badge look with the blue.

The original pulleys were 2-1/2" on the jointer and 4" on the motor, for a final speed of 5520 RPM. I replaced the originals with new Browning pulleys that you see in the picture. I'm now running the jointer at 4800 RPM. I considered running it faster, but figured I would just end up burning the wood.
