Great start to the year (2014) with this 14 inch Walker Turner band saw. This saw was found in a barn outside of Detroit. It was used in a auto parts manufacturer business. After three generations, the business was closed and all machines were put on a semi truck and distributed among the brothers. This band saw among other machines were put in the barn and sat for a little over ten years. The machine turned over when plugged in, (( surprisingly )) seems complete, everything moves freely and operates. (Broken handle on the upper height adjustment, only real negative!) Has the very cool pulley system cover that flips up!!! Original motor runs, but needs a complete over haul. Motor covered with rust that looks like fur. It is a really nice KC motor, which are my favorite, normally uber smooth and quiet. I am starting the restoration process tonight, definitely needs a new paint job...really nice heavy, very very thick, castings. Another easy Prious fit....Love my car!!

Finished pictures below...I am glad I undertook the restoration of this saw as it runs without noise and because of its weight cuts very very well. Saw guides were upgraded along time ago and are the best saw guides I have seen and used. I had a new lower gear drive shaft fabricated as the original one was cracked in half. THIS SHAFT CONNECTS THE MOTOR TO ALL THE MOVING PARTS. When I broke down the machine, it appeared as though the machine had been run for awhile on the broken shaft. This completely destroyed and trashed the lower bearings and one of the bearing covers. Those replaced, as well as all the others make the machine as good as new. I had to shim the upper wheel shaft to the bearings as the bearing size is not available. This is consistent with what I read on the "Walker Turner band saw restoration blog". At this point I only need to make a fitting to use its original blade guard.
