This machine was acquired by a referral from fellow OWWM'r Doug Westlind... Thanks Doug! This trip required a 13 hr round trip drive in one day, but it was worth every mile to get there. My host for the day, Walt, was an old-timer who had lived there in Redmond, Oregon since after WWII. He and his wife met there and raised their family in Redmond.

This mortiser was purchased by Walt's dad after WWII and given to him sometime later when Walt inherited his Dad's shop. Walt said the machine has basically sat in the same place for the past 12 years and he needed the space. Thanks to the low humidity found on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range, there was basically zero rust on the machine. I intend to dismantle and do a thorough check-out of the machine. There are no known defects. There were some minor insignificant parts of the machine that are missing; the tension screw which adjusts the amount of foot pressure, all of the original hardware for the belt pulley including the shifter handles. It came with all of the original chisels, collets, and washers for the mortiser (nine in all).

I'll look forward to a complete teardown and repaint sometime this summer and update the pictures as I progress. This machine is within 800 machines (via serial number) made of my Crescent 32" bandsaw, so these two machines will be greatful to be re-united under the same shop!

Oh, purchase price was $300 and included the Original Century 1/2hp motor (I think original).
