This was my 1st restoration about 8 years ago. I spotted this machine in the wild out in weather, rusted and uncovered at a commercial site. I asked the owner about it and he said go ahead and get it out of our way. The machine was in a sorry state. It was sand blasted, primed and painted. After using what seemed like a drum of penetrant and heat and the use a 30 ton press, I was able to release the column that was stuck 1' above the head casting. It released with a very loud pop. I was afraid to look thinking that the casting had broken but was relieved to see it was not. Delta sent me a manual and a parts breakdown. I changed all the bearings in it, replaced all 3 belts and some needle bearings in the power feed. Total cost to restore this machine was about $350.00 including paint and a new chuck. Moral of the story - stay vigilant, keep your eyes open and don't be afraid to ask about an old machine you see out in the wild.
